Portland Zoo trip
Audrey and Daddy in front of some African deer-type animals.
She loved the salmon and sturgeon! Not a big surprise since her favorite activity at home is staring at the fish tanks.
Audrey and Mama at the Asian elephants. I was saying something about needing to leave because one elephant just kept peeing and peeing! And Audrey wouldn't turn around for a good picture.

Art time
Last weekend we took my mom out for a birthday dinner. I had Audrey draw on the birthday card envelope and it was really good! Forrest was sad that he didn't get to keep her first drawing. I didn't really think about that and I felt kinda bad for giving away her first drawing.
Well almost every day since then we've had art time so that Audrey can practice her drawing skills. I know she's only 5 months old, but I don't think it's too early. The more we do it, the more she seems to take an interest in it. We've got four pictures up on the refrigerator right now. It's probably just my wishful thinking but I think I'm seeing some improvement. It's still just scribbles of course, but she draws differently with different colors.
I'm really excited about this and so is Forrest. He tried to help her draw once but got frustrated because it's kind of difficult. He's not as patient and admits he's not a very good teacher. So he's glad that I'm encouraging her and working with her.
I'll post her drawing soon so everyone can see what a great artist she is!

No longer in chronological order
I was trying to keep things in chronological order, but that isn't going to happen. I guess this is why I should have started this from the beginning!
This is my favorite picture from Christmas. Audrey is here with all her presents, some of which can't be seen. She had more than everyone else combined! But that's not surprising. I love this picture because she's really snuggling into her presents, like she's saying, "They're mine! All mine!"
Sadly, she didn't get to open any of them, and she didn't really care about them. But Mama opened them all and had a great time!
What.
A while back we took Audrey to the feed store to meet some baby chicks and bunnies. An employee at the store thought Audrey was very cute (naturally) and asked if she wanted to meet a goose. I thought she meant an adult goose, and I was hesitant. From past experiences I know that geese are not friendly. But I said yes, because Audrey likes new things and she loves animals.
I was very happy when the lady brought a gosling up for Audrey. She liked petting it and was interested until the gosling "kissed" her. She turned and made this face. She did not know what to think of a goose kiss.
My kitty!
Audrey has slowly been learning how to pet the cats. She has just begun to pet them with an open hand and they are starting to like her more. But she still screams with excitement when she sees Mabel, so Mae doesn't come very close.
The cutest things happened today. First, Forrest was holding Audrey and Ella (pictured) was in his lap. Audrey wanted to pet her, so I showed her how. I pet Ella gently, and Audrey pet her gently. Then I scratched Ella's head, and Audrey scratched Ella. She's learning so fast!
Then, while I was trying to put Audrey down for a nap, Ella came to visit. I stood Audrey up to pet Ella, and Audrey hugged her! She wrapped both arms around her, it was adorable. I just wish Forrest had been there with the camera. And now I can't wait for Audrey to be three years old so she can get her very own kitten.

6 weeks old
Bath time
This is one of Audrey's first baths. She's always enjoyed them and has tons of fun splashing and kicking. She outgrew her pink baby bath tub and now has an inflatable duckie bath. Tonight she sat up well in it for the first time. I think she'll be ready for bath toys pretty soon and I can't wait! I just ordered some adorable bath toys. They're four little dogs that have spots of "dirt" that wash off with a washcloth and water. I know she'll love them.

Big news!
Audrey is so close to sitting up on her own! But she only wants to do it to show off for strangers. Last Monday she was sitting on my lap during a board meeting and I looked down at her and realized she was sitting up straight and I wasn't holding her. It was amazing! It was the first time she'd done it and she sat up by herself for several minutes. Then yesterday she sat up in her Boppy chair. We had someone coming to meet our dog (we're finding him a new home) and I put her down in her chair in a reclined position. When we sat down on the floor with our dog I looked over and she was sitting up perfectly straight! She'll never do this when we have her practice her sitting so I guess we just need to invite people over more often and she'll be sitting in no time!
